First impressions at Sea Turtle Rescue Center, Glyfada, Greece
It´s my first day at the Rescue Center.
I got up early, took the bus and the tram to arrive at Glyfada at 7.15 a.m., sun´s about to rise.

Because these days it´s around 36 degrees during the day work starts at 7.30 a.m.
Some other volunteers are already there, having breakfirst and getting started. Each night three of them sleep in the waggon, the others are staying in an apartment.
I am getting a quick introduction and then my first task: clean turtle and tank. The "lucky" turtle to be cleaned by me is named Alkimos. It´s big and beautiful, 40 kilos to lift for two people. Though you know it, it is surprising how heavy it is and I surely need some effort to carry it to a shady spot for cleaning. Volunteer Catarina is showing me how to clean it. I am getting a bucket with a sponge, a toothbrush and iodized water in it.
